Citizens Follow up on Duty Bearers Pledges Live on Radio

On 26th November 2017, Mr. Mukonyezi Wilfred engaged local citizens on what duty bearers have delivered to their districts, communities ever since they voted them into the offices. “What duty bearers have done for the two years in office considering the pledges they made during campaign period and how far with the improvement on service delivery. As local citizens, you should know that it’s your responsibility to monitor these duty bearers and also demand for better service delivery from them. Mr. Mukonyezi is the moderator of the ‘listeners forum Program’ a two hour weekly live radio discussion sponsored by ToroDev that engages citizens on  issues of accountability every Sunday starting from  08:00 – 10:00pm on jubilee FM.

The discussion attracted more than 45 calls and massages from the local listeners who highlighted their issues and concerns about the pledges duty bearers made during campaign period and they include the following.

“Duty bearers have not delivered much for the local citizens in this two years in office and they have failed to improve services such as roads and health centre’s especially in fort portal municipality, “said Robert from Katumba Kabarole District,

“Members of parliament have not done much in delivering better roads such as that one of Kabagoona and Kiguma roads and yet they promised to work on them during campaign period,” said Godfrey from Kabagona Kabarole district.

“Duty bearers both at district and parliamentary levels have not done anything as far as their manifestos are concerned especially on what they pledged to do  for people and this has increased poor performance of some sectors,” said David Ruhweza from Kiguma Kabarole district.

“Duty bearers have failed to play their roles and give people accountability at community levels, and yet they pledged quarterly accountability during campaign season and this has affected a lot services at lower levels”, said Agatha Lazaro from Kabarole district.

“During the campaign period duty bearers pledged  to improve services at community ,sub county and district levels but it’s now two years they have not done anything to improve services they just follow their  individual interests and that has affected services,we call up no duty bearers to consider people views if they are to improve development,” Said Tugume Richard  a caller from Bukwali Kabarole district.

“Our roads and health centers are badly off duty bearers have done less to words improving them ,” said Ssalongo Magongo from Mugusu Kabarole district.

“Duty bearers had good manifestos but they have failed to follow them and implement the activities they had proposed to people this has increased to poor service delivery,” said Businge a caller from Kyenjojo district.

“Citizens should openly tell duty bearers their failures in every sector  such that they can improve this will help to improve  their performance ,” said Asiimwe Dan from Rwebisengo Ntoroko district.

“Our roads in Harugongo sub county a very poor and yet during the campaign period duty bearers such as LCV chairperson and members of parliament pledged to work on  them but up to now they have failed to make un improvement,” said Mwanguhya from Kantemeho Kabarole district.

“Honorable Sylvia promised to work on roads, water during the campaign period but up to now  they are still lacking,” said Mugisa Vincent a caller  from Kibale  Kabarole district.
