PEPFAR Project: Assessment, Design, and Development of a Decision Support Tool for HIV/AIDS Management (October 2016 – September 2017)

Objective:

The PEPFAR Project aimed to develop a Decision Support Tool (DST) for the prevention and management of HIV/AIDS in Uganda. The tool was designed to assist healthcare providers in making informed decisions to improve patient outcomes and enhance the effectiveness of HIV/AIDS interventions.

Overview:

This project was part of the DREAMS Innovative Challenge, managed by AidData and the College of William & Mary, Virginia, USA. The project focused on the development of a comprehensive DST that could be integrated into Uganda’s healthcare system to support frontline health workers in their efforts to combat HIV/AIDS.

Key Activities:

  • Tool Development: Designing and developing a user-friendly DST that aggregates patient data and provides evidence-based recommendations for HIV/AIDS management.
  • Pilot Testing: Conducting pilot tests in selected health facilities to assess the tool’s effectiveness and usability.
  • Training and Deployment: Training healthcare providers on how to use the DST and integrating it into existing health systems.

Impact:

The Decision Support Tool developed under this project has been instrumental in improving the quality of HIV/AIDS care in Uganda. By providing healthcare workers with real-time data and evidence-based guidelines, the tool has enhanced the accuracy of diagnoses and the effectiveness of treatment plans. The project has contributed to better patient outcomes and a more efficient healthcare system in Uganda.
