Government has earmarked funds to boost organized women and youth groups in Uganda to reduce unemployment & poverty in communities. The support is aimed at improving household incomes, fight poverty and reduce unemployment levels amongst women and youth in communities.
The state minister of Gender and Culture who is also the Woman Member of Parliament Bunyangabu district while giving accountability on ToroDev supported weekly radio talk show ‘Orukurato’ that is aired every Saturday 8:00pm-10:00pm on Hits Fm, said the funds will help women and youth to start their own development initiatives at community level to improve income at household level.
On 26th May, 2018 Hon Mutuzo said her ministry released the funds early May 2018 to the districts accounts of all the 7 districts of Rwenzori Sub region. Women entrepreneurship program and youth livelihood funds groups that have shown interest to use the money will be supported to help them implement their planned activities. She called upon women and youth groups to use the money for the planned ventures if they are to develop and increase their income status.
’Operation Wealth Creation much as it has faced some challenges, farm inputs like seeds have been provided to people to support them fight poverty at household level and we are working hard to improve on the policy level. We shall be supporting and encouraging more modern farming practices this financial year in order for people to benefit’’, said Hon. Peace Mutuzo.
While responding to callers on the issues of lack of safe and clean water in her constituency Hon Mutuzo said she has worked with other duty bearers in the district to lobby for boreholes and springs. Out of the 208 boreholes and springs that have been faulty, we have repaired 51 boreholes and 1 spring well in the sub counties of Kisomoro, Nyarugongo, Mutiiti11 among others. We are committed to reducing the work load of women and children who walk long distances looking for water but also to reduce water borne diseases for a healthy district.
The district has received road unit equipments to improve the transportation of people and goods and as a district we have earmarked to murrum 9 roads especially those that have been affected by the recent heavy rains and also construct Kyoho-Kasese- Bwensumba bridge which we hope will help farmers to transport their crops to market places, easy accessibility to schools and health centers.
The minister under the education sector said already 78 billion shillings has been secured to skill up the youth in the country especially those in technical institutions. Machines for practical lessons, recruitment of more teachers, infrastructure improvement will be priotized to promote self employment especially among the youths.
During the 2 hours live discussion, key service delivery sectors of health, education and economic development were emphasized.
