Takeaways from our new “Data & Evidence Use for Improved Urban Governance” Program Strategy 2022 – 2026

A number of months have passed without hearing from us here, right? Good news is that we have been much active, holed in a deep reflection, framing and re-framing our new focus for the future years. Indeed, for the last 10 years, we have learnt alot from our interventions in the transparency, participation and advocacy (TPA) for improved governance/public service delivery programs and projects in Uganda and some parts of Kenya (Nakuru County). We have done all the foregoing, in all that long period of time, in pursuit for realizing a well informed and knowledgeable society, taking charge of her own sustainable development processes. There is no any other moment than this to take this orientation further, but in slightly different ways.

One of ToroDev’s new program strategy for the next five years (2022 – 2026) is ready. This will focus on rigorous and relevant data and evidence generation and capacity building for use to inform public policymaking processes. Reaching this consensus thus far, is further informed by our recent launching of the Open Data Analytics for Development initiative in 2019. Moreover, the ambitious urbanization program of the Ugandan government, particularly evidenced by the elevation of several municipalities into cities in 2020, recharging the urge for rural – urban exodus of vulnerable population groups like youth and women in search for better socio-economic sustainability opportunities in urban centers, also informed our new strategy to address justice is such upcoming complex urban communities. We will majorly focus on five (5) result areas under this new program area;

  1. Data & evidence resources Governance and Management in Urban Authorities
  2. Inclusive Urban Economic Sustainability of Residents
  3. Sustainable Urban Physical & Transportation planning with Precision
  4. Urbanization, Environment and climate change
  5. Data Digitization & Smart Cities Modeling for Sustainable Urban Development
